Dear Friends,
From December 2005 to April 2006, Tu Bi Foundation – VN Rescue Fund at Vietnam Buddhist Center in Houston, Texas – has received the total amount of $34,165. As natural disasters struck everywhere from North to South of Vietnam, we carefully evaluated the situation and distributed goods to the needed areas. Furthermore, Từ Bi prioritized its efforts on the most distressed victims and tried its best to reach those living in remote regions that had not yet received assistance.
Tu Bi Foundation plans continuously for short-term as well as long-term contingencies. Aside from the immediate tasks, the rescue and relief organizations also implement other long-term, infrastructure-related projects: providing health and hygiene cares to the flood victims; building houses and schools; drilling water wells; helping the victims restore their lives, not just materially, but also mentally and psychologically. Being built 2 meters above ground level, the classrooms in Tien Giang, Dong Thap have saved local children age 3 - 6 from drowning as parents can seek refuge for their children. In the past, parents had worked far away from home and could not return in time to rescue their children upon flooding.
Below are details of recent activities.
1. Provide urgent reliefs to disaster victims. Goods and cash valued of 10 U.S dollars were distributed to the families in:
- Yen Bai Province: 1250 families (pictures)
- Ha Tay Province: 150 families in the regions affected by Agent Orange (pictures)
- Quang Tri Province: 200 families
- Binh Dinh Province: 165 families
